1st Short Term Teachers' Exchange in Portugal

Between Sunday 25th February 2018 and Saturday 3rd March 2018, the representatives of the Latvian, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish and English schools taking part in the project Erasmus+ KA2 Call 2017 took part in the 1st short term teacher exchange in Portugal.

The 1st   Short term teacher exchange in Braga, Portugal had a meeting with the following agenda:

  • Partners presented the work completed between October 2017 and February 2018 regarding the science groups. All groups discussed the work completed with the children, discussing experiments carried out and the children’s attitudes to the work.

 

Meeting Minutes– 27th February 2018

·         All partners presented their chosen scientist to the children at Edifacoop.

The Portuguese team presented Alexander Fleming with the discovery of Penicillin.

Latvian partners presented the inventor of holograms, Juris Upatnieks.

English team presented Joseph Swan, inventor of the incandescent light bulb.

The Turkish team presented Avicenna and his life.

The Italian team presented Leonardo da Vinci and his flying machine.

·         All partners presented their science magazines.

 

Meeting Minutes- 2nd March

Plans were made for the next groups. The activities will have a Language focus- learning English.

1.

Each country is to choose a story to perform, as in a theatre play. Partners will video the performance and present it to the children in Latvia. The children in Latvia will do a live performance of their story during the visit. The videos will last no longer than 10 minutes each please.

  • The English team will present ‘The Three Little Pigs’ story.

  • The Italian team will present ‘The Little Prince’.

  • The Portuguese team will present ‘The Enormous Turnip’.

  • Please could the Turkish and Latvian teams email the coordinator with their choice of story to perform once known?

Partners will record all activities carried out in their Language groups between March and June 2018 and create a presentation for all partners in Latvia.  Please keep presentations within a 10 minute time frame.

·         Preparing a theatre play in English

·         Song contest in English

·         Role Play Activities

·         Listening to songs in English and memorising the words

·         Showing Fairy tales/ cartoons/ films in English- Cinema days

·         Inviting foreign visitors in to school.

Other activities to be completed between visits-

·         Disseminate activities from the visit to Portugal to children, staff and parents

·         Inform local newspapers of the visit

·         Complete questionnaire about impact of Science clubs

·         Complete initial questionnaire about Language

The English coordinator will send links to easy songs for the children to learn in English. We will hold a singing competition via Skype before our next meeting in Latvia (end of May) where the children from each partner school will all sing one song (different songs) in turn for all to hear. Skype details and instructions to follow.

Please could all partners send a page about your chosen scientist along with 3 experiments for the magazine.

England will send pages on ramps, cloud experiment and electricity.

Latvia will send pages on floating and sinking (England will send their activity page for this also), Slime and Footprints.

Portugal will send pages on the germs on hands experiment, secret message and static electricity on balloons.

Italy will send pages on making a rainbow, the soap experiment and the balloons/candle experiment.

Turkish team- please choose 3 of your own experiments which are different to the above.

When sending your pages, please put it in the format of materials needed, method and include 4 to 5 photographs per experiment.

We will need to prove the impact the project has had on our children and staff. Please could everyone write a paragraph on the impact the science groups have had in your own school.

The Visit to Latvia will take place 3rd June to 9th June 2018. (3rd June and 9th June are travel days with 5 working project days)

The focus for this meeting will be Language clubs.

The visit to Italy will take place 23rd September 2018 to 29th September 2018 (23rd and 29th September are travel days with 5 working project days)

The focus for this meeting will be Maths clubs.

Please could everyone make sure that the mobility tool is updated.

·         Reporting

We need to keep detailed records of all activities completed for the project. An interim report needs to be submitted in October 2018 and the final report is to be completed and submitted at the end of the project.

Summary of Tasks to be completed between February 18 and June 18:

  1. Create a presentation to give in Latvia to show the work carried out with the children regarding the language groups. Please bring an electronic version which we can share at the meeting. No longer than 10 minutes to present please. Activities to be covered are-

Preparing a theatre play in English

Song contest in English

Role Play Activities

Listening to songs in English and memorising the words

Showing Fairy tales/ cartoons/ films in English- Cinema days

Inviting foreign visitors in to school.

  1. Create a video of a story being acted out by the children- in English. No longer than 10 minutes to present please. Children in Latvia do not need to make a video as they will give a live performance during the visit. The videos will be presented to the children in Latvia.

  2. Send 3 experiments and a page about the chosen scientist to edifacoop.edu@mail.telepac.pt by 30th April 2018.

  3. Jayne Smith to send links to easy songs for the children to learn in English.

  4. Jayne Smith to set up Skype account in preparation for the song contest (and set a date for the competition call).

  5. Apply for your Euro pass certificates if you would like them.

  6. Join all social media groups if not in them already- upload photographs and presentations to the dropbox facility/ WhatsApp page.

  7. All partners to let Svetlana know flight details and names of all participants for the visit to Latvia as soon as possible please.

  8. All partners to update the mobility tool.

  9. Create a website and Ed-twinning space?
