Portugal - Edifacoop

Edifacoop is an Educational Cooperative Institution, in Braga. It comprises Nursery (4 months-3 years), Pre-school Education (ages 3-6), Primary School (ages 6-10), CATL (Free Time Activities - ages 6-15) and Senior Citizens (Day Care Centre and Support Service), enriched with complementary activities, such as Swimming, Musical Instruments, English, Computing, Arts, Physical Education, Ballet and Rope Skipping. It was founded in 09.12.1992.  

Throughout its existence, the institution has been increasing physical activity opportunities (indoor and outdoor), improving services at all levels and enabling the development of diversified activities and the implementation of several projects, by owning a nature area with plant species and native animals. It has about 40 employees and 300 pupils and elders who develop an Educational Project and Curriculum which relies on Citizenship Education (Education values), favoring the integral formation of those who embody this institution. Edifacoop has participated in five Erasmus+ KA219 projects in partnership with eleven other European countries in total. Our institution has also been a part of national and international projects, namely:

  • Comenius Program project;

  • Nónio XXI Century Project;

  • Integrates the European Network of Antipoverty;

  • Has celebrated cooperation agreements with the parish councils where it is inserted;

  • Member and founding partner of the Portuguese Association of Rope Skipping;

  • Life Science Project, titled "The Climate, the Culture, and Us", whose practices still persist: Weather Station in the school grounds, separation and reuse of organic waste in benefit of  the existing animals in the park;

  • Environmental Olympics, which awards the most environment-friendly  student every year;

  • Participation in the Eco-Schools Program (Programa Eco-Escolas), which promotes environmental education and contact with local schools;

  • Organization of an Environmental Week for pupils, where they are in touch with nature, as well as Beach Week.
